Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA)

The Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA) has proposed establishing a Mixed-Use Cultural Arts Campus in downtown Lake Worth Beach, Florida

The Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts (WMODA) has proposed establishing a Mixed-Use Cultural Arts Campus in downtown Lake Worth Beach, Florida. This ambitious project aims to enhance the local arts scene and includes several key components:

  • WMODA Museum: A 33,000-square-foot facility dedicated to the fired arts, featuring exhibitions from both international and local artists.

  • Residential Building: Comprising 110 rental units, including 8 affordable artist lofts designed for individuals earning between 80-120% of the area median income (AMI).

  • Arts Alley: A vibrant corridor connecting the museum and residential building to the downtown area, intended to serve as a public space for art installations and gatherings.

A notable highlight of the proposed museum is a partnership with Chihuly Studio of Seattle, which plans to create a permanent art installation and immersive experience within WMODA. This collaboration is expected to attract visitors and significantly boost local tourism and the economy.

To accommodate residents and visitors, the project includes plans for an underground parking garage beneath the residential building. Additionally, a separate 268-space parking garage is proposed at K Street and 1st Avenue, with funding contributions from the City of Lake Worth Beach, the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and WMODA.

Public meetings and hearings are ongoing, providing residents with opportunities to voice their opinions and obtain further information about the project's development. Links to past meetings and workshops along with links to information about the project are listed below.

The Parking Garage & WMODA’s Contribution

There have been claims that WMODA is demanding a parking garage and free spaces. This is simply untrue. The City approached WMODA about partnering on the K Street parking garage to support downtown businesses and address an identified parking deficit.

Key Facts:

  • WMODA will not own the garage—it will be a City asset.

  • WMODA is contributing $1 million toward construction.

  • WMODA is providing construction management for efficiency.

  • WMODA is loaning the CRA $3.5 million at 4% interest (The current prime rate: 7.5%).

  • WMODA patrons will not have dedicated parking spaces but will share public parking.

  • All residential parking will be located on the L & M Parcels and will meet code requirements.

WMODA has worked closely with the City’s Community Sustainability Department to ensure compliance with all regulations. Any claim otherwise is factually incorrect.

Downtown Lake Worth Beach Parking Study

In 2018, WGI conducted a parking study of Downtown Lake Worth Beach. That study was updated in 2024.

Key findings from the study:

  • Implement a paid parking system downtown to manage/reduce parking demand, generate revenue for capital improvements and ensure the professional management of parking resources.

  • Establish a comprehensive Parking and Transportation program managed by a dedicated Parking and Transportation office serving both the beach area and downtown.

  • Encourage the CRA’s continued investment in parking through the purchase/acquisition of land or participation in public-private partnerships to create additional parking spaces and potential future parking structures.

  • Anticipating and planning for future demands in emerging districts adjacent to downtown.
