City Commission

Mayor Resch has been visiting Lake Worth since 1967 and has called Lake Worth Beach home since 1979. She is a practicing family law attorney here in the city.  Ms. Resch is a proud member of the Florida, Palm Beach County and the United States Supreme Court Bars.  She is an emeritus member of the American Inns of Court, and has won numerous awards for her legal work and her work in the community.

Mayor Resch was elected in 2021 and reelected in 2024.  Some of the Mayor’s priorities include improving customer service for our residents; improving communication between residents, city staff and the commission; addressing the housing crisis and the homeless issue, and addressing the beach park, including restoring the historic city pool. She recognizes the challenge with new development, achieving a balance between maintaining the city’s cottage-feel and economic development.

The Mayor formerly served as the City Attorney of Lake Worth and was an Assistant State Attorney in Palm Beach County, focusing on Crimes against Children.

Ms. Resch is married to Lou Bristol, who is a retired Special Agent with Federal Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Together they fill their home with rescued old dogs, cats and birds. 

Vice Mayor Sarah Malega was first elected to serve as the District 1 City Commissioner in March of 2021. She is a 13-year resident of Lake Worth Beach, and a proud business owner for the last 14 years.  Commissioner Malega is a very active community leader who is committed to making a positive difference for the residents of Lake Worth Beach, especially the youth of our City. She strives to represent the City as a policy maker who cares about all residents and business owners, with open lines of communication, a welcoming City Hall, transparency and positivity.  She has served on the Florida League of Cities Advocacy Committee and Legislative Committee as well as the Federal Action Strike Team fighting bad legislation and working with higher offices for the benefit of Lake Worth Beach.  The Vice Mayor believes that welcoming new home buyers, new businesses and new development is critical to the City’s future.  As a successful business owner since 2006, she understands financial challenges, and the ever-changing global and economic landscape, and often acts as a liaison for the business community within the City.  Vice Mayor Malega is enjoying setting Lake Worth Beach apart from other communities as a welcoming, inclusive, livable and unique city and welcomes you to our city!

Commissioner Christopher McVoy is a 20+ year resident of Lake Worth Beach, who was sent to South Florida in 1995 as a Ph.D. scientist to help restore the Everglades. A world-renowned Ecohydrologist, Everglades expert, author, elected official and empiricist trained in systems analysis and simulation modeling, Commissioner McVoy is a noted educator and advocate for science-based environmental science, he is internationally experienced in environmental and agricultural research and his work has been published in Ecological Economics, Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment and other peer-reviewed journals. He believes that his life experiences and training provide him with abilities to represent everyone in the City.  As a scientist, he brings skills and a commitment to open, fact-based decision making. Living in the Netherlands, Mexico, France, Germany, India and Costa Rica gave Comm. McVoy respect for different cultures and many ways of solving urban problems.  He is passionate about listening to all and eager to strengthen the things that make this city special. He understands that the challenges of Covid, climate change and the city’s electric utility require a compassionate leader who is also a critical thinker. Some of his priorities are: establish energy-conservation programs with immediate savings, re-open the Public Pool, revitalize Dixie Highway with expanded small business support from the CRA, incentivize home purchases and improvements through improved community policing, and increased traffic calming solutions.

Mimi May has proudly served as the District 3 City Commissioner for Lake Worth Beach since April 2024. With a deep passion for community engagement and a steadfast commitment to public service, she is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

As a middle school math teacher with 27 years of experience in conflict resolution and problem-solving, Mimi values fiscal responsibility and transparent governance. She actively ensures that every voice in the community is heard and respected.

During her tenure in Lake Worth Beach, Mimi has championed initiatives that strengthen the city's unique neighborhoods. She has been an integral part of the Neighborhood Association Presidents’ Council (NAPC) for over five years and currently serves as the City Commission liaison to this vital group. Mimi fosters collaboration between the city and the NAPC, celebrating the diversity and goodwill of our residents.

Beyond her work as a commissioner, Mimi loves spending time on the water. Whether snorkeling, diving, or simply enjoying the beauty of our coastal community, she embraces the outdoors. She lives in College Park with her husband, Tom, and their three rescue dogs: Charlie, Barkley, and Ella.

Mimi is committed to building a brighter, cleaner, and greener Lake Worth Beach and is working tirelessly to position the city as the arts destination of Palm Beach County.

Commissioner Diaz grew up locally, where he attended Our Savior Lutheran and Sacred Heart schools before John I. Leonard High School. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University and then spent many years as a local scuba dive/wildlife guide. Wanting to do more for the environment, Commissioner Diaz earned his J.D. from Shepard Broad Law School at Nova Southeastern University with a focus on land use and environmental law.

He has since been very active in Florida environmentalism as the founder of Lake Worth Waterkeeper, a local 501c3 devoted to the advocacy of the Lake Worth Lagoon watershed. Commissioner Diaz also sits on the board of directors of the notable Everglades Coalition and Florida Wildlife Federation.

A committed outdoorsman, Commissioner Diaz spends his time enjoying all types of fishing, especially fly fishing our beaches and estuaries, paddling, hiking and camping, and shooting sports like sporting clays and trap. As a family man, his partner Melissa (a Lake Worth Community Middle School teacher) and young son Aldo join in on most of these adventures.

As a representative of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Commissioner Diaz also sits on the Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative Steering Committee and Palm Beach County Water Resources Task Force. He also serves as our representative on the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency’s governing board.
