Stay Active Mind & Body

As our daily lives are currently filled with more indoor time. But there are many ways to stay healthy and active. Did you know that the “Safer at Home” order allows for individuals to “engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with the Social Distancing Requirements… such as, by way of example and without limitations, walking, hiking, and running”? Here’s a few ideas.

  • Walk/run around your neighborhood and say hi (from a distance) to all your neighbors who are outside too.

Stay Connected Community

Although we’re all social distancing physically, as humans we need to stay connected emotionally. Try one or two of these every day.

Palm Beach Zoo

Starting this week, we will be airing our PBZTV segments every morning at 10:00 A.M. Monday-Friday. These pieces will range from fun and educational videos to longer, one of a kind stories about some of the animals at the Zoo. We hope to make it into your new daily routine!

Connecting With Others

  • Call a Facetime a friend or relative you haven’t spoken to in a while to check-in.

  • Write a letter.

  • Support a local restaurant – Many restaurants are still open for take out or delivery orders. Support your favorite local eateries and order food for pick up or try Doordash or Ubereats and have it brought to you

  • Here is list of local restaurants that are open from the Lake Worth Beach CRA.

  • Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep. Make time to unwind.

  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.

  • A Better Way to Homeschool – A quick-start resource to help families pull together a plan for surviving the next 1 – 2 months at home with their kids. It can also provide a time to slow down and enjoy our kids as they learn. This is for preschool through 8th grade.

Exercise your mind

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.

  • Visit the Lake Worth Beach Library Webpage – The library has tons of free ebooks ready for your enjoyment.

  • Work on Mindfulness – Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.

For the kids

  • Hold a virtual play date through Facetime.

  • Teach a young person how to write and send a letter.

  • Overcoming Obstacles – Life skills curriculum for students in grades K-12. Their resources include strategies for teaching social and emotional skills.
