The work improves long-term reliability for customers east of Ocean Boulevard while minimizing impacts to the surrounding environment.

About The Project
A new electric conduit beneath the Intracoastal Waterway
The City of Lake Worth Beach Electric Utilities Department will begin the Intracoastal Waterway Bore Project to strengthen and improve the reliability of electric service for customers east of Ocean Boulevard. The project, which should last approximately 60 days, includes installing a new underground conduit beneath the Intracoastal Waterway, between Bryant Park and Casino and Beach Complex, using specialized directional drilling technology. Once complete, new electric lines will be placed through the conduit to serve buildings on the east side of Ocean Boulevard.
By relocating these electric lines underground beneath the Intracoastal Waterway, the project will enhance the resilience of the City's electric system, improve long-term reliability, and support future infrastructure needs while minimizing impacts to the surrounding environment. The City is committed to completing the work safely and efficiently and will provide updates to residents, businesses, and visitors throughout the project.

Mobilization Monday, July 27, 2026 through anticipated completion Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Requested working hours are Monday–Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Weekend or night work may be required during continuous operations such as pilot bore and pullback.
Parking at the Beach
Approximately 60 spaces in the Casino parking lot will be closed for the duration of the project. No ADA spaces will be blocked. Some resident permit spaces are being relocated just west of their current location.
Free Weekend Shuttle
A free shuttle will run from the City Hall parking lot to the Beach on Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day Monday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the project timeline.
Park & Beach Access
Bryant Park paths inside the work zone will be closed, but the seawall path, boat ramps, parking lots, and playground remain open. Beach access from the Casino parking lot should not be affected. No traffic detours are required.

What is the anticipated start date and completion date?
Anticipated mobilization is Monday, July 27, 2026. Anticipated final completion is Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
What are the anticipated work hours?
Requested working hours are Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Will weekend work be required?
Weekend work may be required, as it is not recommended to stop during certain procedures such as pilot bore and pullback. Exact weekend dates will be known once the project begins and subsurface conditions are evaluated. If required, weekend work will take place at both drill pit sites.
Will any night work be required?
Night work may be required, for the same reasons listed above for weekend work.
How will weather delays affect the schedule?
Weather delays, if encountered, will be communicated to the City's project management team within 24 hours. The contractor will work to make up for weather delays by requesting weekend work as needed.

Will any lanes, shoulders, sidewalks, pathways, or crossings be closed?
Yes. Bryant Park paths located within the work zone and pipe fusing zone will be closed for the duration of the project. The shoulder adjacent to 2nd Ave S will be closed during offloading of materials. The aisles and spaces of the parking lot at the Beach will be closed for the duration of the project as shown on the map.
Will traffic detours be required?
No traffic detours will be necessary.
Will access to Bryant Park be affected?
There will be some restricted access in South Bryant Park, but the parking lots and the seawall path will remain open.
Will access to the Casino Parking Lot be affected?
There will be a new traffic pattern around the work area in the parking lot at the Beach.
Will beach access pathways remain open throughout construction?
Beach access from the Casino parking lot should not be affected during construction.
How will ADA access be maintained?
In the Casino parking lot, no ADA parking spaces are being blocked. Some Bryant Park paths will be closed, but the path by the seawall will remain open.
Will the project affect boat traffic?
Boat traffic should not be affected. The boat ramps in Bryant Park will remain open.

How many parking spaces will be temporarily removed from service at the Beach?
Approximately 60 spaces.
Which parking areas and meters will be affected?
The affected areas are shown on the Casino parking lot map above. Some resident permit parking will be affected, but those spaces are being moved just west of their current location.
Are any ADA parking spaces being blocked?
No. In the Casino parking lot, no ADA spaces will be affected.
What is the duration of the parking impacts?
Parking spaces will need to be closed for the duration of the project.
Will alternative parking be available?
Yes. A free shuttle will run from the City Hall parking lot to the Beach on Saturdays, Sundays, and Labor Day Monday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the project timeline.

How will ADA access be maintained in the park?
Some paths will be closed, but the path by the seawall will remain open.
Will the playground remain accessible?
Yes, the playground will remain open.
Will special events be affected?
The contractor is working to complete all major work after the 4th of July and before Labor Day. Overtime and weekend work may be needed to achieve this.

Noise, Vibration and Lighting
What activities will generate significant noise?
Drilling operations will generate normal construction-level noise.
What are the anticipated hours of noisy operations?
During all working hours, including any approved night and weekend hours.
Will vibration-generating activities occur?
Drilling produces relatively low, continuous vibration from the drill string rotating and the cutting head moving through soil and rock. In soft soils this is minimal; in rock or cobble it increases noticeably.
What temporary lighting will be used?
Temporary lights will be used if night work is required. Lights will be positioned to point away from residential areas and streets.
What measures will minimize impacts to residents?
The contractor intends to adhere to the approved schedule and work zone layouts.

What dust control measures will be used?
If dust becomes an issue, the contractor will use a water truck to keep dust down.
What mud tracking prevention measures will be used?
Mud tracking prevention will be provided at all entrances to the work zones.
What are the street sweeping and cleanup schedules?
General cleanup will take place daily. Street sweeping should not be required since work is within the park and a limited area of the parking lot. If sweeping becomes necessary, the contractor will employ a street sweeper as needed.
How will spoils and waste materials be managed and disposed of?
The contractor will keep a construction dumpster onsite for debris. Excavated materials are typically reused to backfill the drill pits.
Are odors or other impacts anticipated?
No.

How will work areas be secured?
The contractor will install temporary construction fence around all work zones.
What signage will be installed?
Road closed signs and Type III barricades will be installed for aisle and path closures. Drums will be used to delineate the parking lot work zone in addition to the fence.
How will pedestrians be directed safely around the work zone?
Pedestrians will follow the safety and construction fence until it ends, where they can resume normal walking routes.
What routes will construction trucks use?
Golfview Rd on the Bryant Park side, and the south parking lot entrance on the Casino parking lot side. Exact routes are determined by the individual trucking companies, which perform their own route planning.
Will affected areas be restored after construction?
Yes. Areas will be restored to their original condition. A preconstruction video covering the entire affected work zones and surrounding areas will document existing conditions.
